Our History

The history of Teagno Construction, Inc. (TCI) is best understood in the context of looking at the life of TCI's founder and president, Donald J. Teagno. Born in Teaneck, New Jersey it was clear to his family that one day Donald would surely choose a profession that involved creating or building. As a young child traveling with his family into New York they drove over the George Washington Bridge. Awed and captivated by the grandeur of such a great bridge, once home, Donald recreated from memory a precise model of the bridge.

When Donald was eight years old he moved to Barre, Massachusetts. This move provided Donald the opportunity to experience the adventure of a great many outdoor experiences. In fact, it provided the ground work which shaped his personal and professional development. In Barre, Massachusetts and then later Sturbridge, MA, Donald learned basic honest hard working values from his extended family and the Boy Scouts. At eleven years old, Donald won the prestigious Northeast Utility Inventor's award. He excelled in scouting and earned the Eagle award at 16 years old.

After graduating high school, Donald attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts. He earned a degree in English and received his teaching certification. While a student, Donald worked as carpenter converting a local barn into the Rusty Scupper Restaurant. Over the years the restaurant changed hands several times, but the building has sustained the test of time. He continued to work for local contractors and quickly earned the respect of many throughout the valley as a skilled and honest craftsman.

During Donald's post college days, he continued to work as a carpenter doing small remodeling and additions to local homes. He built his first complete home in Southampton, Massachusetts and at this time began his furniture making career. Already established as a young but skilled craftsman, he specialized in reproducing the famous Italian Bastiano furniture line. With growing interests of other crafts and trades people throughout the valley to work with Donald, and increased customer demand, the motivation to expand his general contracting services was apparent.

TCI's continued commitment to quality and honesty stems from Donald Teagno's childhood values based on his scouting days. In fact, it's common at TCI for local high school and college students, still involved in scouting to work for our company.

Today, TCI continues to grow and prosper under the leadership of Donald Teagno. We continue to remember our roots and are completely comfortable working with customers with a wide range of needs - from a modest starter home to a complex commercial project.
