TCI recently completed an 11 unit new housing development as part of a first time home buyer's program by the Hilltown Community Development Corporation. The houses were designed by PRFA+LDa Architects to be not only affordable, but to also to be are designed and built to be highly energy efficient. Through a deliberate siting strategy each of the houses take advantage of daylighting, shading and photo-voltaic roof panels. Each of the houses also makes use of highly efficient cellulose insulation, windows and doors and extensive draft stopping to create a tight shell to minimize heating and cooling costs for the life of the building. The Energy Star audit suggests that these houses will use less than 40% of the energy of a conventionally built home.
